The Result
Countries receiving most 12 points / Brazil, 5
Countries giving 12 points to the winner / Estonia, Ireland, Latvia, Serbia and Liechtenstein
Countries receiving points from most juries / Belgium, Brazil, Canada and United States, 17
Highest placing country not scoring a top mark / United States in 9th with 10 points from Italy and United States as highest marks
Lowest placing country scoring a top mark / North Macedonia in 26th getting 12 points from Luxembourg
Greece got the perfect start to their comeback in the competition, receiving 12 points from the first jury. However, they had to pass on the lead to first Belgium and then Brazil following the points from the next two juries. Brazil received a lot of high marks and seemed to be impossible to catch. None the less, Greece caught up and briefly held the lead again towards the end of the jury vote, only to give it back to Brazil before the televote. United States and Norway were not too far behind, with Estonia rounding out the top 5. Then it was time to let the public have their say, and as we have seen so many times before, they had a completely different favourite. United Kingdom, who had only finished 16th with the juries, was the most popular song with the people, winning the televote ahead of Brazil, France (17th with the juries), Norway and Canada (14th). So in the end Brazil ended on top with a healthy margin over Norway, who took home the silver. The bronze medal went to Greece and the top 5 was rounded out by Poland and United Kingdom.
Brazil made their debut in GM22 and reached the top 10 on their second participation, finishing 6th. After a change of HoD, Brazil finished in the top 10 again in GM47, and in GM64 they obtained their best result, when Wanessa finished 4th. This position was reached again by Michel Teló in GM73. When Brazil reaches the top 10, which doesn't happen all that often, it's mostly in its lower part, and very often the huge South American country doesn't even make it to the final. Eventually, Brazil decided to quit following GM143 and only made a single appearance before a more succesful return in GM174, which lead to the first gold medal a few editions later in GM176, when Melim - who consists of 3 siblings - took tome the trophy. Still, a few editions later Brazil once again left Global Music behind, only making very sporadic appearances. They did make a splashy return in the last edition, when Alexia Evellyn won the silver medal. It was quickly decided to give her another change, and this paid off, as she can now lift her hands in the air as the Brazil's second GM champion. Well done Brazil, Alexia Evellyn and Anthony!
