Indonesia started off strongly and held the lead for most of the first half of the voting, before Switzerland and Albania stuck their necks out and took pole position. However, at the end it was France, who after a slow start suddenly saw a lot of points come its way to pave the way for its 5th victory just 3 points ahead of Switzerland. Indonesia took the bronze, with Albania and United Kingdom rounding out the top 5.
France debuted in GM/03 and has so far competed 81 times. In the beginning, France had a tough time in the contest. Expectations were high for the big country, but somehow they could not quite deliver. The top tens came only in about every 4th edition, and though they did win 3 bronze medals in the first 50 editions, they also very often failed to qualify for the final. Then in GM/55 a new HoD came on board and suddenly things turn around for the better. The first victory finally came in GM/60 and within just 5 editions France took home medals 3 times! Just when things seemed to be going downhill again, yet another new HoD - David, the current HoD - in GM/86 pushed new blood into the French team and within the last 14 editions, he has triumphed on top of the podium 4 times! France now has a total of 13 medals and a further 22 top 10 results. This is also singer Indila's second gold medal! Well done France, Indila and David!
