Global Music 245: Give Peace a Voice
|
Welcome to The Hague! After Within Temptation and Smash Into Pieces powered the Netherlands to an incredible 9th Global Music trophy, the contest is heading west. This time, we’re settling in The Hague, where music takes centre stage and peace finds its voice. And it’s going to be a packed edition! 40 countries have signed up, one more than last time. We’re delighted to welcome back Adilson, returning after a longer break and bringing Morocco back with him. Gabon also returns for only its second participation ever, while Monaco and the United States are back in the race as well. Among this edition’s hopefuls are 2 Global Music Champions and 3 other Medallists, all looking to add another chapter to their Global Music story. But they’ll face plenty of familiar names, exciting returnees and a fresh wave of debuting artists ready to shake up the scoreboard. 40 countries. 21 places in the final. One trophy. ln August we have been in Leipzig, where the QUARTERBACK Immobilien ARENA has hosted the 244th edition of Global Music.
26 countries competed in the grand final, and Helene Fischer, Marc Atlas and Sarah Connor are now ready to reveal the votes coming in from all the juries. Afterwards they will announce the result of the televote, based on the 6 countries, who despite being eliminated in the semi finals, still took the time to vote. A special thanks to these 6 players: Christoph, Vojta, Fabi, Gretchen, Andreas and Kamil for making the effort even though you did not make it to the final. Having as many as possible contributing to the televote makes the contest so more exciting, because the more points the televote has the bigger influence it has on the final result. Global Music 244: Where Music Lives On

Welcome to Leipzig!
As Marc Atlas managed to win the contest and give Germany its 6th trophy, we are moving northeast, settling in in Leipzig, where music lives on. 39 countries have signed up to participate, which is the same as last time! This month we welcome a new member to our family, as Christoph will make his debut representing Austria. And we can also welcome back Michiel who returns after several years, taking on Suriname. Welcome to both of you! There are 7 Global Music Champions in the line-up this time as well as two other Medallists fighting to be able to better their previous results. They will have to battle against a string of other returnees as well as a lot of debuting artists. Who will come out on top is up to you! The first hurdle in Leipzig is the semi finals, from which 21 countries will qualify for the final as usual. As Nuno Ribeiro managed to win the contest and give Portugal its 8th trophy, we are moving southwest, settling in historic Leiria in central Portugal. 39 countries have signed up to participate, which is one more than last time! Several of you have already asked what will happen once Scorewiz is taken down next year. Over the last couple of months I have been searching for a replacement for Scorewiz and I have found Scoryx to be the best, so for GM242 I have used this new service.
As with every change, there are pros and cons, but I think Scoryx has many cooler features and I hope you will come to like it. I also think that it is best watched on a bigger screen, so if you can use a laptop or a tablet instead of your phone, I will recommend that. With Scoryx you cannot turn up and down the speed, but you can still jump to the next jury if you so wish. This is the tool bar:

Global Music 240: Leeds

Welcome to Leeds! As MEEK managed to win the contest and give United Kingdom its 20th trophy, we are moving west, crossing the Channel and settling in electric Leeds in Northern England! 41 countries have signed up to participate, which is one more than last time! GM240 sees the return of Turkey as well as Cambodia. There are 3 Global Music Champions in the line-up this time and a Silver Medallist is fighting to be able to better her previous result. She will have to battle against a string of other returnees as well as a lot of debuting artists. Who will come out on top is up to you! The first hurdle in Leeds is the semi finals, from which 21 countries will qualify for the final as usual. We are so excited, so let's get inside the First Direct Bank Arena for the semi finals! In March we have been in Gdansk, where the Gdansk Stadium has hosted the 239th edition of Global Music.
26 countries competed in the grand final, and Edyta Górniak, Justyna Steczkowska and Michal Szpak are now ready to reveal the votes coming in from all the juries. Afterwards they will announce the result of the televote, based on the 10 countries, who despite being eliminated in the semi finals, still took the time to vote. And now let's get to it! Interestingly, the one song surviving all the battles, standing strong at the end of it all, was not a Global Music Champion. Conclusion of the Super Final

With the conclusion of the 2025 Super Final we are closing the door on last year's Global Music journey.
59 songs started out with the chance of being crowned as THE BEST SONG IN GLOBAL MUSIC 2024 In the end it was down to 2 songs: The Dutch Champion "Gave it all" by HAEVN against the Irish entry "Halo" by Rea Garvey, which did not win a medal in it's original edition. 24 players cast their vote in the Grand Final! Global Music 238: Kyiv

Welcome to Kyiv!
As Jerry Heil managed to win the contest and give Ukraine its 2nd trophy, we are moving farther East, settling in the resilient city of Kyiv! 40 countries have signed up to participate, which is the same number as last time! GM238 sees the return of the staple houses Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus who has been away for quite a while now. Also we welcome back Chad, who has only competed once before! We also have a new player this month: A warm welcome to the family, Andreas! As Deloraine managed to win the contest and give Czech Republic its 2nd trophy, we are moving back to Europe, settling in the marvelous spa city of Karlovy Vary! 40 countries have signed up to participate, which is three more than last time! GM237 sees the return of the staple houses Australia, Finland and Ukraine and one of the lesser frequent European countries: Montenegro. We have no new players this week, but I do have the pleasure to welcome back Adilson after a longer break! There are 5 Global Music Champions in the line-up this time and another 4 Medallists are fighting to be able to better their previous result. My Musical nomad: sonidomundi

As you all know, I have a passion for music and foreign cultures. This is also one of the reasons that I love bringing us all Global Music each month.
However, not many of you know that I have also began dabbling in making my own music where I "travel" the world creating music inspired from various iconic places around the world. For some reason, Marrakech in Morocco has always been sort of a mythical place for me, and I am fortunate enough to have visited the city a couple of times - and it's absolutely amazing! So I kicked of my musical travels in that city and created 6 songs inspired by Marrakech, blending local instruments and sounds with a more modern Western style. I know that this kind of music will not be to everyone's liking, but as the songs are also very different from eachother, you might enjoy some of them. That is the reason why I now invite you to visit my artist profile - SonidoMundi - on Spotify and have a listen for yourself. At the moment my songs inspired by Marrakech, Rio de Janeiro and Santorini are available.
