Countries receiving points from most juries / Australia and Finland, 19
Highest placing country not scoring a top mark / Finland in 14th with 10 points from Liechtenstein as highest mark
Lowest placing country scoring a top mark / Kuwait in 26th getting 12 points from Canada
Australia was awarded the first top mark and took an early lead before passing it on to Czech Republic. However, after the first 7 juries, United Kingdom leaped in front and never looked back, though their once huge lead dimished towards the end of the jury vote. Australia was a close second with Sweden, United States and Bulgaria rounding out the jury top 5. The public gave a narrow victory to Australia in front of Liechtenstein (who was only 23rd with the juries). Denmark came a solid 3rd in the televote (8th with the juries) ahead of Netherlands (10th) and Norway (26th). The excitement was thus intact when United Kingdom was rewarded their points from the public, but they came up 7 points short, reaching 8th place in the televote, and Australia was then crowned as the winner and United Kingdom had to settle for the silver. Sweden took home the bronze and the top 5 was rounded out by Denmark and Belgium. Kuwait qualified for their first final, but once there had to settle for last place.
Australia debuted back in GM04 with Delta Goodrem getting a mediocre result, but the first top 10 result was already obtained on their second participation in GM06. In the early days their participations was, however, infrequent, and it wasn't until GM23 that Australia became a regular contestant. The first triumph came in GM24 when Delta Goodrem was sent for a second time. This was, however, not Delta's first victory as she had already won the contest for Ireland in GM13. Australia now entered a strong period with another four medals and several top 10s before gold shone upon them again in GM50, when Guy Sebastian and Jordin Sparks lifted the trophy. After a downturn in the results, Australia hit it big again in GM84 with Samantha Jade, and has since won another 4 gold medals; 2 for Delta Goodrem in GM91 and GM116, and one each for Dami Im in GM106 and Zayn & Sia in GM141. Since the latest victory Australia has only been on the podium twice, winning silver medals in GM146 and GM172. In 44 participations since that last medal, Australia has only graced the top 10 four times, but now they finally hit it big again. Oleg has been HoD for Australia since GM169, but represented Ukraine before that. This is, however, his first victory in Global Music! Well done Australia, Stan Walker and Oleg!
