Denmark received 12 points from the first jury and never gave away the lead through either the jury voting or the televote. An extraordinary feat! With all the juries having awarded their points, Denmark was 38 points ahead of Canada, who was another 14 points ahead of Netherlands. Morocco and Norway were not so far behind in 4th and 5th place respectively. There was no overlap at all between the jury and televote top 5s this time. The televote was won by Belgium (17th with the juries) ahead of Monaco (21st), China (15th), Albania (25th) and Benin (19th). However, as they were so far behind the leading countries from the jury vote, it didn't matter that Denmark only finished 17th in the televote and they could claim victory even before they received their points from the televote. The winning margin was 36 points down to Canada, who took the silver while Netherlands went home with the bronze. Norway and Morocco rounded out the top 5.
Denmark is a founding member of the contest and has not missed a single edition ever! After several top 10 finishes in the early editions, Denmark finised on top for the first time in GM18 with Annika Askman and again shortly after in GM20, when Bryan Rice won his first of three gold medals! He repeated on top in GM51 and together with Julie in GM68. Denmark's other gold medals came courtesy of Kendra Lou in GM28, Trine Jepsen in GM43, The Mountains in GM118, Simone in GM123, Infernal in GM136 and CARLSEN in GM146. Despite winning 9 other medals since that last victory, Denmark had to wait more than 50 editions for the 11th trophy, which came in GM203 at the hands of Rasmus Walter with Danish lyrics for the first time. In the last 3 editions, Denmark has finished as runner-up twice and now they take the gold for the 12th time - this time also with a song performed in Danish. Mikkel has been HoD for Denmark throughout all 214 participations, reaching the top 10 a total of 138 times and winning a massive 48 medals! Well done Denmark, Bjørnskov and Mikkel!
