Welcome to Berlin
"Exciting Nights"
The country's capital and largest city, Berlin is a diverse urban area boasting a lively nightlife and a myriad of things to do. You face a dizzying array of choices for cafes, clubs, bars, museums, galleries, shops, historic sites, and other places to visit. Berlin's architecture is very varied. Most of it was severely damaged during the last years of World War II. But for the past 20 years, the city has become known for its mix of renovated old structures and innovative new ones, including mergers of both, such as the Reichstag Building and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. You can see examples of many historical periods within the city center. Look for everything from elegantly restored medieval palaces to ultra-modern steel structures. The latter is world famous for their cutting-edge design. Berlin was once a divided city, representing a deep separation between East and West. Today, the city is pulsating with a youthful energy. It is now in the middle of the country's trade, arts and sciences. And it is an important symbol of European unity and cosmopolitanism.

The Result
Countries receiving most 12 points / Portugal, 6
Countries giving 12 points to the winner / Finland, France, Denmark, Turkey, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Argentina
Countries receiving points from most juries / France, 17
Highest placing country not scoring a top mark / France in 3rd place with 10 points from Morocco and Turkey as highest marks
Lowest placing country scoring a top mark / Denmark in 18th place getting 12 points from Norway
Once again the lead changed hands several times during the voting. A fierce battle between Portugal and Australia ended with the former clinching ahead to claim their first victory - heavily due to the 6 top marks they recevied. Australia took the silver and France won the bronze. Finland and Bosnia-Herzegovina rounded out the top 5. For the whole top 5 it was their best result ever.
Portugal is one of the founding members of Global Music and has been present in every single edition so far. With 3 top 10 finishes in the first 4 editions, culminating in a 4th place, Portugal got off to a strong start, but since then their results have been less impressive. Portugal even missed the final in the last edition. That is, however, all forgotten now, as Portugal bounces back in style, winning their first gold medal. HoD Luis has been responsible for the Portuguese delegation from the beginning, and he can now crown his efforts with the big trophy. Well done Portugal, David Fonseca and Luis!
