Welcome to Amsterdam
"cruising along historic Canals"
Known as one of the greatest small cities in the world, Amsterdam charms visitors with its cool and cozy atmosphere. The city is made up of a network of picturesque canals with small streets lining each side. The little squares, many bridges, and tall, thin houses lend a special intimacy to the place, earning Amsterdam the nickname "Venice of the North." Although the city is quite touristy, it is also the most populous city in the Netherlands, which allows you to blend in with the locals for an authentic experience. The 17th-century architecture combined with booming industries make it a popular destination for travellers with a variety of interests. Whether you are interested in the history and culture contained in the many museums, want to stroll down the quaint streets of an old European city, or just looking for a good party, Amsterdam has much to offer.

Cyprus received the first set of top marks and then managed to stay on top for the entire voting! Denmark took home the silver medal, which is their 14th! The bronze medal was won by triple champion Italy, and France and Ghana rounded out the top 5. The latter achieved their best ever result, and so did Haiti in 6th place.
Cyprus made their debut in GM/09, and what a debut it was! In their first attempt Anna Vissi soared to the top and claimed gold. It was always going to be tough to follow up on such a debut, and Cyprus struggled big time, only squeezing into the top 10 twice over the following almost 40 editions. During this time the HoD changed several times, before the current HoD, Kostas, took over in GM/43. His career began with 5 non-qualifications, before Michalis Hatzigiannis did the trick again and took the trophy in GM/48. The form of the island then improved drastically and only 11 editions later, Michalis would once again triumph. Cyprus has also won 3 bronze medals over the years; the latest coming in GM/95, and now Dionisis Sxoinas brings GM to the Mediterranean island for the 4th time. Cyprus has competed a total of 90 times, reaching the final on 62 and the top 10 on 22 of those participations respectively. Well done Cyprus, Dionisis and Kostas!
