Welcome to Hamilton
"Almost Home to the Hobit"
On the banks of the Waikato River lies Hamilton, a pretty, active city on North Island. With popular museums and parks, great urban sights and good walking routes, you can fill your day sightseeing in Hamilton, then sit down in one of the cafes or restaurants. The river, perhaps best seen on a scenic boat tour, provides a range of activities from sporting to leisurely. Take a gentle stroll along the river and head into the town to see its abundant gardens.

The Result
Countries receiving most 12 points / Austria, Denmark, Iceland, Iran, New Zealand and San Marino, 3
Countries giving 12 points to the winner / Switzerland, Indonesia and Iran
Countries receiving points from most juries / Iceland, 20
Highest placing country not scoring a top mark / Ukraine in 6th with 10 points from Andorra and Sweden as highest marks
Lowest placing country scoring a top mark / South Korea in 22nd getting 12 points from Greece
At the beginning of the voting, Austria, Iran and host country New Zealand all held the lead, but Iceland soon took over and never looked back. When all juries had revealed their votes, Iceland was leading by 19 points ahead of Ukraine, China, Norway and Iran. But as we have seen so often, the televote told a different story. The hot favourite with public was Denmark, who was only 13th wih the juries. They won the televote with a 20 points margin to Austria (8th with the juries) closely followed by Portugal (18th), United States (24th) and Spain (17th). Iceland only finished 10th in the televote, so their lead from the jury vote almost crumbled. But as the rest of the jury top 5 did even worse with the televote, Iceland held on to the trophy with Denmark - the televote winner - taking the silver. Austria won the bronze and New Zealand and China rounded out the top 5.
Iceland debuted in GM07 and took home a bronze medal. They reached the top 10 twice in the following 3 editions and once again reached the podium three editions in a row from GM20 to GM22. The middle of the medals - the one obtained in GM21 - was even of the purest gold and was won by Jonsi. Following a longer break, Iceland returned to the contest with a new HoD in GM43 and only 2 editions later they finished on top for the second time with Yohanna. Following this it was a bit up and down for Iceland, but they did clinch a silver medal in GM85 before it went really down hill with 13 consecutive non-qualifications, and between GM88 and GM128 they didn't finish in the top 10 once and over the last couple of years, Iceland has often chosen to stay away for longer periods. They returned in GM184 but after a handful of efforts they gave up again only to return this edition with the loudest bang! Well done Iceland, Birkir Blær and Anthony!
