Ireland, Poland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Spain and Belgium took turns leading the pack, before Denmark climbed to the top after the 11th jury. Throughout the rest of the jury voting it was a really close race, but Denmark managed to stay in the lead almost all the way through. For only a short stint, Poland went ahead, but when all the juries had voted Denmark was back on top. Poland was however not far behind and was followed by Slovakia, Spain and United States. We have seen it before and also this time the televote's top 5 featured five totally different countries. Host country San Marino - having only finished 10th with the juriese - was the favourite with the public, but South Africa finished a close runner-up (only 19th with the juries). The rest of a somewhat distant televote top 5 was Canada (21st), Palestine (16th) and North Macedonia (15th). The jury favourite, Denmark, finished 9th in the televote, but although Poland did better reaching 6th place, it was not enough to pass Denmark, who was crowned as champion. Poland took home the silver and Spain won the bronze with Slovakia and San Marino rounding out the top 5.
Denmark is a founding member of the contest and has not missed a single edition ever! After several top 10 finishes in the early editions, Denmark finised on top for the first time in GM18 with Annika Askman and again shortly after in GM20, when Bryan Rice won his first of three gold medals! He repeated on top in GM51 and together with Julie in GM68. Denmark's other gold medals came courtesy of Kendra Lou in GM28, Trine Jepsen in GM43, The Mountains in GM118, Simone in GM123, Infernal in GM136 and CARLSEN in GM146. Despite winning 9 other medals since that last victory, Denmark had to wait more than 50 editions for the 11th trophy, but now it is here and for the first time a song performed in Danish finishes on top. Mikkel has been HoD for Denmark throughout all 203 participations, reaching the top 10 a total of 130 times and winning a massive 45 medals! Well done Denmark, Rasmus Walter and Mikkel!
