Turkey received the first top mark, but quickly passed it on to Finland and Netherlands, who kept it until halfway through the jury vote. Turkey then took back the lead but battled hard with Netherlands, before Suriname joined the fight towards the end. When all jury votes had been counted Turkey was on top followed by Suriname, Bahrain, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Norway. However, none of these five countries also finished in the top five in the televote. Bahrain came the closest reaching 6th place. Instead the public favoured France (who was 9th with the juries) ahead of Andorra (22nd), United States (12th), Belgium (14th) and Germany (7th). Turkey was 7th in the televote, but it was enough to stay ahead of the competitors, when the jury and public votes were combined. Bahrain took home the silver in only their second participation, and France climbed into the bronze medal position. United States and Bosnia-Herzegovina rounded out the top 5.
Turkey is one of the founding members of Global Music and has since competed 179 times under 4 different players. For the first 20 editions, Turkey was truly a force to be reckoned with and they reached the top 10 an amazing 13 times, including 8 consecutive top 10 finishes from GM09 to GM16. During this period Turkey won 4 medals including their first of gold in GM15 thanks to Murat Boz. After GM20 things seemed to change for the worse though and Turkey decided to take a break of 8 editions. When returning in GM37, a new HoD had taken over. He got off to a bumpy start though, and only reached the top 10 once in his first 10 attempts. Towards the end of 2010, things changed for the better, and Turkey took home 3 medals in 4 editions, but they had to wait until GM76 to be able to lift the trophy for the second time, when Aynur Aydin finished on top. The third gold medal came only 7 editions later, when Emre Aydin triumphed. This was followed by a bronze medal on home soil and another one shortly after, and in GM100 the current HoD, Günec, took the reigns of Turkey. In her first 35 participations, Turkey only reached the top 10 twice, and though they have since won 2 silver medals, they have not graced the top 10 since GM160! But who cares about this, when you can call yourself Global Music Champion for the 4th time? Well done Turkey, Selin Gecit and Günec!
