The Result
Countries receiving most 12 points / Denmark, South Korea, Spain and United Kingdom, 3
Countries giving 12 points to the winner / Poland, Canada and Benin
Countries receiving points from most juries / United Kingdom, 22
Highest placing country not scoring a top mark / Finland in 7th with 10 points from Ireland and Turkey as highest marks
Lowest placing country scoring a top mark / North Macedonia in 25th getting 12 points from Norway and Serbia
Denmark got off to a very strong start receiving the two first top marks, but when South Korea was awarded two consecutive "douze points", they took over the lead. It was then passed on to San Marino and then Spain, before United Kingdom and Norway fought fiercely for the top spot, taking turns in occupying it. Cyprus also had a taste of pole position inbetween, but when all juries had cast their votes, United Kingdom had the most points. However, only 10 points separated the top five with Denmark, Norway, San Marino and Cyprus still very much in the game. Again the televoters distributed their points in a completely different way and gave most points to Ireland, who had finished second to last with the juries. Closely behind came Luxembourg (15th with the juries), United Kingdom, Estonia (24th) and Denmark. For the first time ever, two countries received 0 points in the televote and more remarkably these two countries, South Korea and Poland, had finished 6th and 7th respectively with the juries. In the end, United Kingdom had collected the most points in total and was crowned as the winner and thus became the country with the most victories (18) in Global Music history, having shared this feat with Sweden up until now. Denmark won the silver medal, and Norway took home the bronze with San Marino and Luxembourg, who was the two favourites with the public, rounding out the top 5.
United Kingdom debuted way back in GM03 with Sugababes taking home the bronze medal. Several other top 10 results followed, before they could claim victory for the first time with Des'ree in GM19. Other victories followed in GM26, 38 and 40 with Shayne Ward, James Morrison & Nelly Furtado and Duffy respectively, before the current HoD, Per, took over the UK in GM60. In only his second participation for the country, he won its 5th gold medal, when Alexandra Burke finished on top. Adele and Lawson brought the UK more gold in GM64 and 86 respectively, before Olly Murs - with the help from Demi Lovato - and Ellie Goulding won back-to-back editions in GM109 and 110. Years & Years then won in GM117 with Adele taking home the trophy for a second time just two editions later. Ed Sheeran did it again for the Brits in GM134 and in GM138 Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson triumphed. In GM148 Calum Scott finished on top of the scoreboard and Mabel did so again in GM158. Tom Grennan brought another trophy to the british isles in GM184, and Harry Styles finished on top as recently as in GM205. Now Jerub wins the 18th gold medal and is thus responsible for making the UK the most victorious country in Global Music history. United Kingdom has now taken part 206 times, and is thus one of the most faithfull countries in GM. Their track record is also very impressive. They have been to 189 finals, reaching the top 10 in 104 of those and winning a total of 41 medals! This gold medal is the 14th for Per, who also brought Australia gold in the past. Well done United Kingdom, Jerub and Per!
