Welcome to Paris
"City of Light"
A beautiful and romantic city fit for any itinerary, Paris brims with historic associations and remains vastly influential in the realms of culture, art, fashion, food and design. Considered the capital of fashion, it is home to the world's most luxurious fashion designers such as Christian Dior and Yves Saint-Laurent. A large part of the city, including the River Seine, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city has the second highest number of Michelin-restaurants in the world and contains numerous iconic landmarks, such as the world's most-visited tourist attraction, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, and the Louvre Museum, making it the most popular tourist destination in the world. Its nickname, the City of Light, comes from its reputation as a center of education and ideas and its early adoption of street lighting.

Quite a few countries had the privilege to lead the scoreboard throughout the first half of the voting, but then it turned out to be a battle between United Kingdom and Turkey, who won their respective semi finals with large margins. And what a battle it was! United Kingdom came out on top only one point ahead of Turkey, to claim their 5th gold medal catching up with Denmark and now only trailing Sweden as the most victoriuos country in the contest. Turkey took the silver medal and Finland went home with the bronze, while Russia and Czech Republic rounded out the top 5. It was Czech Republic's best result ever - in fact it was their first time in a final and the first time for Slovakia, Georgia and Uganda as well.
United Kingdom debuted in GM03 and took home the bronze with Sugarbabes on their first attempt. In the following editions, the UK ended up in the top 10 in about half of them, though no other medals were obtained. They thus opted for a break and returned in GM18 with a new HoD and in the following edition, Des'ree went all the way to the top of the podium. Following a few other top 10 results, United Kingdom claimed gold again with Shayne Ward in GM26 and shortly hereafter a silver medal was obtained. After a short break and another change of HoD, UK came back stronger than ever before, winning the silver on their return and then the trohy in GM38 with James Morrison and Nelly Furtado. Another gold medal followed in GM40, when Duffy triumphed. Getting used to good results, 6 consecutive editions outside the top 10 made UK change their HoD again - and again with success as Per takes home the 5th trophy to UK on his first attempt. Per has represented different countries throughout his Global Music career. Starting off with Norway back in GM08, he changed to Canada, before he got his first victory with Australia, and now in his first edition as HoD for United Kingdom he strikes again. He has several other medals to his name, which he has won for all the countries he has represented including 3 silver medals for Canada. Well done United Kingdom, Alexandra Burke and Per!
