Welcome to Rome
"Eternal City"
Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever. Today, this bustling metropolis is a center of power, finance, art, culture, and religion. It continues to exert a powerful influence over the world in many ways. A truly global city, Rome boasts not only a historic town center listed as a World Heritage Site, but also numerous palaces, thousand-year-old churches, Roman ruins, magnificent monuments and statues, vibrant piazzas, and sculptural fountains. It is an international capital for both fashion and food. A city of immensely rich historic heritage and a cosmopolitan atmosphere, this is one of Europe's - and the world's - most visited, beloved, and beautiful capitals.

Countries receiving most South Korea, Indonesia, Portugal, San Marino and New Zealand, 3
Countries giving 12 points to the winner / China, Argentina and Mexico
Countries receiving points from most juries / Italy, 22
Highest placing country not scoring a top mark / Italy in 7th with 10 points from Armenia, Portugal and Russia as highest marks
Lowest placing country scoring a top mark / Austria in 28th , getting 12 points from Turkey
Overall this was a very close voting with only 12 points separating 2nd place from 11th point. However, one country stood out above the rest. Taking the lead about one third into the voting, South Korea never looked back and soared to victory 48 points ahead of fellow Asian countries Indonesia and Israel, who took home silver and bronze respectively. Canada and Iceland rounded out the top 5. It was a good edition for Asia, as South Korea, Indonesia and China in 9th place all secured best results ever.
South Korea made their debut in GM15, but their appearances were only sporadic, and they only reached the final twice and never finished higher than 26th, before becoming a regular player as late as GM67. Still their results were less than impressive, and they did not reach the top 20 until as recently as GM73, when they placed 15th. Now this all changes, as Ailee soars to the top making South Korea only the second Asian country to claim victory. In total South Korea has competed 16 times and reached 6 finals. This is their first top 10 and medal. Well done Aille, South Korea and Ismael!
