Welcome to ankara
"fabled past and prosperous future"
Turkey's capital and second-largest city, Ankara supports a large population of foreign diplomats and young students, contributing to the city's international feel. A sparsely populated town until the beginning of the 20th century, Ankara today covers a wide metropolitan area, home to nearly 4.5 million people. Although many travelers use this city merely as a convenient stopover on their way to the country's popular tourist resorts, Ankara offers a diverse culinary scene and a lively nightlife. Turkey's spiritual, cultural, and political center, the city also boasts a renowned museum of Anatolian civilizations, as well as an imposing mausoleum of Ataturk, the father of the modern Turkish state.

The Result
Countries receiving most 12 points / United Kingdom, 4
Countries giving 12 points to the winner / Poland and Brazil
Countries receiving points from most juries / Australia, 22

Australia took the lead after the first 6 juries and then never looked back. Receiving points from 22 of the 34 other juries, with 7 of these placing the song in the top 3, Australia easily claimed gold for the third time. Denmark won the silver, and Turkey took home the bronze. Iceland and Iraq rounded out the top 5.
Australia was the first country from Oceania to join Global Music and made their debut in GM04 and quickly became very successful, winning their first medal on their 6th attempt and their first trophy in their 10th participation, when Delta Goodrem finished on top. Another 5 medals followed, before Guy Sebastian and Jordin Sparks could claim victory for Australia again in GM49. Lately, their success has deminished a little though and you have to go back to GM51 to find their last medal, and they haven't been in the top ten since GM69. However, now Australia makes a big comeback finishing on top for the third time. To date Australia has participated 62 times, been in the final 53 times, finished in the top 10 on 25 occasions and won 10 medals including 3 of gold. Alpay, HoD for Australia, joined Global Music in GM82 and only needed 3 attempts to win a gold medal. Well done Samantha Jade, Australia and Alpay!
