Welcome to Budapest
"Grandeur on the Danube"
You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities - Buda and Pest - to be essentially one large World Heritage Site. Many travelers flock to this city for the popular geothermal springs, but this capital has a lot more to offer than that. The amount of historical sites here is seemingly endless, with some of the most popular being the Buda Castle Quarter, the Millenium Undergound Railway, and Heroes' Square. Artists have long been drawn to the youthful atmosphere of this city, thus the population in Budapest is quite relaxed and creative. Packed with theatres, operas, museums, and a vibrant nightlife, Budapest has energy in abundance.

This must be one of the most exciting votings ever! With 39 juries voting, the lead changed a staggering 28 times with 8 different countries leading at some point! However, it wasn't until the second last jury that Switzerland took the lead for the first time and managed to hang on to the top position just ahead of United States and Mexico. Italy and Israel rounded out the top 5.
This is Switzerland's first victory and their track record in the contest is one of the lesser impressive ones. However, that has all changed now, with Switzerland becoming the 42nd country to take home the trophy. Switzerland made their debut in GM30 with no success and they then didn't return until GM55. They reached the final for the first time in the following edition with Myron, and the first top 10 result was achieved by Patrick Nuo, who placed 9th in GM66. This has up until now been the best result for Switzerland, who reached the top 10 for only the seond time in the last edition, when Melissa López squeezed into the 10th place. In a total of 28 participations, Switzerland has been in just 10 finals and only graced the top 10 twice, but it's all forgotten now, when they strike gold! José Botella, the HoD for Switzerland, only joined the contest in the last edition, and in only his second attempt, he can now call himself Global Music Champion. What noone else has managed in the past, José Botella did in just two tries, as he now brings GM to the birth place of the ESC! Well done Switzerland, Myron and José Botella!
