Just as we have become accustomed to really exicitng votings and close races for the gold medal, we are reminded that sometimes a song just stands out and soares to the top. This time the excitement only lasted halfway through the voting. Up until then it seemed to be a tough battle between Australia, United Kingdom and France, but halfway through the latter pulled away and cruised to a clear victory. Switzerland took home the silver medal, and the bronze went to Denmark, with Croatia and Australia rounding out the top 5.
This is France's 3rd victory, coming only 7 editions after their last triumph. They made their debut in GM/03 and reached the top 10 for the first time in their third attempt, when they finished just outside the medals. Their first medals, all of bronze, came in GM/11, /18 and /49. Then in GM/59 France kicked into high gear and reached the top 2 three times in only 5 editions including their first victory with Grégory Lemarchal in GM/60. The second - achieved by Julian Comblent - came as recently as in GM/90 and now Indila takes the trophy back to France for the third time. France has now competed 75 times, qualified for the final on 55 occasions, reached the top 10 32 times and won 11 medals. David C took over the French delegation in GM/86 and has achieved an impressive 8 top 10 results including a silver and 2 gold medals! Well done France, Indila and David C!
