Presentation

Ira Losco is a prominent Maltese singer and songwriter who has played a central role in shaping Malta’s modern music scene. Born on July 31, 1981, in Sliema, she began performing at a young age and quickly gained recognition for her distinctive voice and dynamic stage presence. Her early career included performances with local rock bands before she launched a solo career that would bring her national and international fame.

She rose to international prominence in 2002 when she represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “7th Wonder.” Her performance earned Malta a second-place finish, the country's best result at the time, and marked the beginning of her enduring popularity both at home and abroad. The success of her Eurovision entry opened doors for a broad musical career, allowing her to explore different genres, from pop and dance to more experimental sounds.

Ira has consistently evolved as an artist, releasing multiple albums that showcase her versatility and growth. Her music often blends catchy melodies with personal and socially conscious themes. She has earned a reputation for being bold and innovative, unafraid to reinvent her sound while maintaining a strong connection with her audience. Over the years, she has achieved numerous chart-topping singles in Malta and has remained a constant presence on radio and in live performances.

In 2016, she returned to the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Walk on Water,” once again representing Malta with a powerful vocal performance and a more contemporary pop sound. Her return demonstrated both her longevity and her ability to adapt to modern musical trends while staying true to her artistic identity.

Beyond her music, Ira Losco is also known for her advocacy work, particularly in support of LGBTQ+ rights and anti-bullying initiatives. She uses her public platform to promote equality and inclusion, earning respect not just as an artist, but as a voice for positive social change.

Over the course of her career, Ira has won numerous awards and accolades, becoming one of Malta’s most celebrated and influential artists. Her commitment to her craft, her willingness to take creative risks, and her strong connection with her fans have ensured her place as a lasting figure in Maltese cultural life. She continues to perform, record, and inspire, maintaining her status as a key ambassador for Maltese music on the international stage.
